The drive thru and customer service here is bad, impressively bad. Over priced too, but my wife likes it so I go for her. Last visit, pulled into drive thru, 1 car at speaker and one more behind that one, was 4:03 when I pulled in. Made it to speaker at 4:20, sat at the speaker for several minutes, finally got tired of waiting and pulled around, there was a small sticky note that says "closed, power outage". Assuming the people in front of me waited like I did and then left too. Absurd that they didn't put something outside at the speaker. Previous visit was just as bad, pulled into drive thru, no cars, pulled up to speaker, got an automated message that said to pull up to the window, pulled around and their were 2 cars in front of me. Took 30 minutes from the time I pulled around to leaving, girl didn't even acknowledge the ridiculous wait time. Hate this place! Update: wife still sends me here, been going inside and getting better service and drink quality, upped the rating to reflect. They also gave us a couple of free drinks for drive through issues.
We just moved back into the neighborhood after a year, and we had never tried this location before, so my fiance and I have ordered here about 5 or 6 times in the past two weeks. Half of those visits our coffee was made incorrectly and the baristas were rude. One time, my fiance went by himself and the girl working drive thru forgot her mic was still on and scoffed at him after he said he was picking up his mobile, and when he got to the window, she shoved the drink into his hand and immediately walked away. He's worked customer service his whole life and would never treat a service worker badly, so we had no idea why she had such a bad attitude with him. A couple hours ago, we went to pick up our mobile order, and they were friendly, but my americano was missing cold foam and it could've used more milk. In this economy? That dollar adds up! (Side note for the SM/DM/owner: lots of shops don't charge for alternative milks anymore, please get with the program. 90¢ is insane.) It's not usually a big deal if stuff happens once in a blue moon. I get it, I'm a barista too. But if there's always something wrong with either the experience or the order or both, that's what makes people stop coming back. We usually choose this location because we don't feel like dealing with the heat and parking to pick up our drinks from Starbucks inside the Fry's, but we have done it, and we will do it more often than coming here. And if another coffee shop opens up nearby after all the construction, people will choose them over y'all if some of those baristas don't chill out.
I love Black Rock! The atmosphere is great, the staff is always friendly, and my coffee is consistently amazing. My only suggestion is to lower the music a bit. As someone who enjoys studying and working from coffee shops, it’s often too loud to focus, and I end up choosing other spots when I need to get work done. I’d love to spend more time here if the music wasn’t quite so loud!
